The Cheese Maker is a Perth based business specialising in teaching the art of home cheese making and supplying cultures and equipment related to home cheese making.
Owner and founder Tanya Barretto (that’s me in video below) fell in love with home cheese making after a friend bought a home made camembert to a dinner party. Classes weren't available in Perth and I just knew we had to change that.
It was out with my corporate career and in with cheese (which I'm still loving), and since 2009, The Cheese Maker has taught thousands of people how to make their own gorgeous cheeses from home in our half day and full day courses. Our headquarters since 2012 has been The Cheese Barrel, nestled amongst the vineyards of Olive Farm Wines in the Swan Valley.
Students have ranged in age from 8 to 82, from individuals to families, hobby farmers to home economics teachers…and the occasional Hens event!
The focus of our courses is to make it as easy as possible for you to get started making your own cheese from home, and to eliminate the ‘trial and error’ often associated with learning this type of skill. Importantly you can purchase cultures and equipment to take home so you can get started right away, and we provide a follow on technical support service to students, nicknamed The Cheese Rescue service.
